She moved from Minneapolis to Washington, D.C.; she was employed by the Pentagon during World War II where she would later meet her future spouse. Helen was a long-time resident of Montgomery, Alabama, having moved here in 1945 with Montgomery native, Owen Eugene Courtney, who predeceased her in 1988.
Helen was active in the St. Ann’s Altar Guild of St. Peter’s Parish. One of her greatest joys was her involvement with St. Bede’s and St. Peter’s churches throughout her active years as well as her support of the Knights of Columbus. She found great comfort in saying her daily rosary as well as reading and baking.
Visitation will be at Leak-Memory Chapel on Monday, March 27 at 5 pm with rosary following at 6 pm. Holy Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 28 at 1:30 pm at St. Peter’s Church; graveside services will follow at St. Margaret’s cemetery.
