

Colonel Fowler began his military career by serving 3 years as an enlisted member in the United States Navy. Upon graduation from George Washington University, he received a commission in the United States Air Force. His first assignment was a Full Instrument Pilot. On a mission over Hanoi, North Vietnam, Colonel Fowler was shot down and spent 6 years as a prisoner of war. He returned home as a highly decorated veteran. Some of his decorations include: two Silver Stars, two Purple Hearts, Bronze Star with Valor device, Prisoner of War Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
In 1978, Colonel Fowler graduated from Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama. He instructed at the Air Force Judge Advocate General School of Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, for 4 years. Colonel Fowler was assigned as the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate at Ramsten Air Force Base, Germany, followed by an assignment as Staff Judge Advocate at Offutt Air Force Base Nebraska. His final assignment was to serve as the Staff Judge Advocate, Headquarters Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.
On August1, 1991, Colonel Fowler retired after 30 years of service. Upon his retirement, he served in the Federal Gang Task Force, in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Alabama; and as the Adjunct Professor in the Paralegal Program at Huntingdon College, Montgomery, Alabama.
In July of 1992, Colonel Fowler joined the faculty at the Jones School of Law, in Montgomery, Alabama, where he taught as an Associate Professor for 12 years. After leaving, he was awarded title of Professor Emeritus. He then served as a Staff Attorney at the Supreme Court of Alabama.
He is survived by his wife Carol Bozeman Fowler; Son Paul Fowler and wife Jane; Daughter Kristin Fowler Story and husband Brandon; Stepdaughters DeLacie Mehalko husband Tom, Anita Watson husband John; Grandchildren Anna Story, Allison Story, Samuel Fowler, Andrew Fowler; Step granddaughter AnnaBelle Whitman.
