Herman W Burns

by his family on Sunday, October 28, 2012. From his birth in McShan, Alabama on December 20, 1943 to his death on Sunday, Wayne inspired those around him with love, faith, and strength of character. He was an Auburn Football Letterman from 1963-1965 and played in both the Orange Bowl and the Liberty Bowl. While attending Auburn, he met the love of his life, Miriam Black Burns in 1963. Following his graduation from Auburn, Wayne proudly served his country as an RF-4 pilot in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was an avid hunter, spending many hunting seasons with his friends at his hunting club. He loved fishing with his grandchildren always willing to put the bait on the pole and take off the fish. He took great pleasure in building and woodworking. His homemade porch swings are filled with fond and cherished memories of enjoying the lake, friends, and family.

Left to honor Wayne are his three children Callie Burns Ash (Michael) , Cyndie Burns Hughes, and Michael Wayne Burns (Leslin); five grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Hughes, Lindsey Elise Hughes, Sarah Elizabeth Ash, Trevor Michael Hughes, and Michael Partrick Ash; a sister, Ann Burns Brown (Jerry); a brother, Leon Burns; and many nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, George William Burns and Elizabeth Burns-Baines; and a sister, Ruthie May Coley.

Wayne will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grand-father, brother and friend. Remember him how he lived, larger than life, a true American hero, strong, funny and confident.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2012. The visitation will be at 2:00 pm at Leak-Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama. Followed by a chapel service at 3:00 pm. Burial to follow.
