Irma Beth Cline, age 98, of North Richland Hills, Texas, left this earth peacefully on February 4, 2024. Born on September 19, 1925 to Orbie Cecil and Ruby Evans, Beth was a homemaker and long time resident of Montgomery, Alabama. Her husband, Charles E. Cline, was an elder at the Dalraida Church of Christ in Montgomery for 40 years, and Beth modeled the role of an elder's wife which she seemed to truly enjoy. She "adopted" families who didn't have relatives around and used her cooking and sewing abilities to provide food and quilts to all the new babies in the congregation. She always enjoyed gardening and was an active member of a local gardening club in Montgomery for many years.
Her husband was the love of her life, and they spent many happy days fishing and traveling all over the United States. Upon his death in 2014, however, it was determined that Beth needed to be closer to family, so she became a resident of North Richland Hills, Texas living with her daughter and son-in-law. This move provided an opportunity to visit more with relatives in Oklahoma as well as becoming an active participant in ballgames and family celebrations in Texas. Beth, however, never forgot her friends in Montgomery and stayed in touch with many on a regular basis through phone calls, letter, and cards.
She continued her hobbies of quilting, crocheting, and gardening up until the last few weeks of her long life. Beth also continued to cherish her family remembering every birthday and anniversary of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a profound influence on those around her in many ways. Being a child of the Oklahoma dust bowl and the Great Depression, Beth's frugality was well known and respected. She didn't waste anything and didn't want anyone else being wasteful, either!
Beth was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Charles E. Cline, son, Jennings E. Cline, her parents, Orbie Cecil and Ruby Evans, stepmother, Jewell Evans, and sister, Helen Cain. She is survived by her sister Orbie Smith of Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Barbara Cline of Knoxville, TN; children, Charleen B. Read (David) of North Richland Hills, TX, Sherman W. Cline (Becky) of Dickson, TN; grandchildren Lisa (Dan) Cline Lagan, Gabrielle (Jeff) Cline Snell, Brian (Chantelle) Read, Ashley (David) Wilson, Christopher (Mykel) Read, Rachel (Chris) Hedge, and Evans (Holly) Cline; great-grandchildren Noah, Asher, and Eli Read, Rhett and Ryder Wilson, Charlee Read, Charlie and Sophie Hedge, Olivia, Greyson, Zoe, and Carter Cline.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Legacy Church of Christ in North Richland Hills, TX on Saturday, February 10th at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service followed by interment in Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens in Montgomery, Alabama is set for Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 2:00 pm with a visitation one hour prior at Leak Memory Chapel.
