

James Rogers Azar of Montgomery, Al passed away peacefully on Sunday March 6 at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and family. James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After serving in the military he worked and retired from Alfa Insurance Company after 50 years of service, where he served as Senior Vice President of Planning. In 2006 the Alfa Data processing center was christened as the Jimmy Azar Data Center in honor of his service as Alfa’s Chief Information Officer from 1973-1999. He served on the boards of Chemical Addiction, the United Way, Pretrial and Goodwill. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. He loved Alabama Football and going on cruises with his wife, having gone on over 30 cruises.
He was preceded in death by his parents Zaki and Mary Azar, and his siblings Joseph Azar, Catherine Reickenback, Emma McElvy, Margaret Clark, Edward Azar, Dodie Pappanastos, Zack Azar Jr., Helen Boman, Dorothy Dean and Tommy Azar.
He is survived by the love of his life of 47 years, his wife Linda Azar; his children Jim Azar (Denise), Bobby Azar, Ken Azar (Pam), Angie Godwin (Paul), Greg Azar (Kim), Kathy Azar; one brother, George Azar (Celeste); grandchildren, Shay, Simon, Michelle, Stone, Matthew, Tyler, Mitch, Ansley, Hallie, Ken and Britany; great granddaughters Layla and Lynlee; two sister in law, Gail Savage and Ruth Azar.
A visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 PM with a Rosary service to follow in the Leak Memory Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2022 with burial to follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shay Azar, Simon Azar, Stone Miller, Matthew Azar, Mitch Azar and Kenneth Azar.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Neta, Nikki, Victoria, Skip and Donna. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to catholic charities or the Parkinson’s Association of Alabama.
