James R Dozier

DOZIER, James Reid, 89, a resident of Montgomery, AL passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 26, 2011 after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents Amos E. and Maggie Perkins Dozier of Elmore and two brothers Terry Dozier of Montgomery and Bruce Dozier of Orlando, FL. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Grace McInnis Dozier; two daughters Faye Dozier Bagley (James) of Montgomery and Glenda Dozier Holland (Paul) of Deatsville; his sister Oretha Dozier Shaw of Elmore; his sister-in-law Margaret Dozier of Montgomery; his brother-in-law Grady McInnis of Montgomery; granddaughters Jennifer Bagley McCracken (Kyle) of Northport and Stephanie Bagley of Montgomery; step-grandson Brandon Holland of Deatsville as well as several nieces and nephews.

Reid was a military veteran, having proudly served his country with the U.S. Army Air Force. After moving to Montgomery, he attended business college and began his working career. He was president of the former Washburn Wholesale Distributors in Montgomery and retired in 1988 after 43 years. He was also a long-time active member of the Montgomery Exchange Club.

Reid was a member of McGehee Road Baptist Church in Montgomery. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1957 at Dalraida Baptist Church and later was a member of Court Street Baptist Church and Woodley East Baptist Church which merged with McGehee Road Baptist Church. He served faithfully as a Deacon for 50 years and received a certificate as Deacon Emeritus in October 2007. Throughout his Christian life, he felt privileged to serve his Lord through teaching Sunday School classes, church training and discipleship programs, and leading outreach programs.

Reid’s family would like to express a special thanks to his wonderful caregivers Vernell Flemming and Vicki Moody and to the members of Vista Care Hospice and John Knox at Home for their loving care and support. Family and friends are invited to attend a service in the celebration of his life at Leak-Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL on Thursday, December 1, 2011. Rev. Winston Brooks will be officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 AM one hour prior to the service at 11 AM with a graveside service to follow immediately at Greenwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be John McInnis, Blue Ridge, GA; Steve McInnis, Asheville, NC; Tim Shuman, Pace, FL; Rann Gordon, Talladega, AL; Phil Hobbie; Deatsville, AL; and Wayne Stuart; Deatsville, AL. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons and the Boswell-Boland Sunday School Class of McGehee Road Baptist Church. Memorial donations can be made to Vista Care Hospice, John Knox at Home or McGehee Road Baptist Church which are all located in Montgomery, or to your favorite charity.
