James Gowan

James R. Gowan, died Saturday October 23 after a brief illness. He was born December 14, 1939, Jimmy retired from Delta airlines after 27 years of service. He was president of Gowan Iron and served as President of Foundation Beef Masters Association for two terms. Jimmy was an avid cattleman in Montgomery and Macon county. He was preceded in death by his parents William W. Gowan and Mary Elizabeth Thomas Gowan, and his brother William R. Gowan, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife Kathlyn Varner Gowan of 55 years, his sons James J. Gowan (Christie), Matthew Varner Gowan, and his daughter Amanda Gowan Pemberton (Adam) and his 7 grandchildren., Harris and Margaret Gowan, Reese and Truitt Gowan, and Lawson, Avery Arden and Ella Harding Pemberton, his brothers John Daniel Gowan (Dorothy), Thomas Gowan (Melanie) and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Jimmy will be held Friday, October 29, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109. Following the visitation there will be a graveside service at 12:00 PM at Cubahatchie Baptist Church, 1060 Old Federal Road, Shorter, AL 36075.
