James Richard Ham, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on January 22, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on October 7, 1947, James was a man of many admirable qualities, being remembered as faithful, hard-working, gentle, and adventurous.
James served his country with distinction in the Navy during the Vietnam era. Following his military service, he pursued a career as an antique dealer and a heavy equipment mechanic. His professional life was marked by dedication and a strong work ethic.
In his personal life, James was a wonderful house husband and a beloved father and grandfather. He is survived by his cherished wife, Victoria M. Ham, his daughter Anita V. Brown, and his son Michael W. Ham. James leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his grandchildren: Benjamin, Sarah, Madison, Gillian, Olvia, Elizabeth, Emmberlin, Izabell, and Gabrialla, as well as his great-grandchild, Watson. He is also survived by his brother, Aaron Wayne Ham (Ann Ham).
James had a passion for history and politics, enjoyed gardening and farming, and had a keen interest in antiques and storytelling. He loved traveling and had a particular fondness for Volkswagens. His children and grandchildren brought him joy, often giving him toys that he greatly enjoyed. James created special memories with his grandchildren, leaving a lasting legacy of love and warmth.
A visitation for friends and family will be held at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home, located at 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109, on January 29, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A graveside service will take place at the Alabama National Cemetery on Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL 35115, on January 30, 2026. Family will gather in the parking lot at the cemetery around 11:15 am, with the service beginning at 11:45 am.
James Richard Ham will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His life was a testament to his dedication to family, his generous spirit, and his adventurous nature.
