Jerry B. Alford (Grumps), age 80, was born January 11, 1942 in Wetumpka, Alabama. Jerry, a resident of Pace, Florida and Lagrange, Georgia, passed away in his home on Sunday, June 5, 2022. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Otis (Odie) W. and Florence Wilson Alford, parents, J. Ralph and Lois Gilliland Alford, brother, K. Marlo Alford, sister, M. Jean Reynolds, and son, Gary Lynn Alford.
Jerry was a longstanding member of Wehadkee Baptist Church in Lagrange, Georgia and more recently attended Grace Baptist Church in Pace, Florida. He served his country in the Army and then retired as a locomotive engineer with CSX/L&N railroad after 54 years. Retirement didn’t slow him down though, as Jerry spent much time helping others without hesitation, cooking, gardening, and living each day to the fullest.
Jerry and Dana Alford would have celebrated 60 beautiful years of marriage this August and enjoyed much of their time together on the shores of Florida and Georgia. Jerry's passion was fishing and fellowship, and was a skilled craftsman with wood and a beautiful painter. Jerry and Dana's most cherished time was spent with friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved sharing good meals, playing board and card games, and being on the water in his boat.
Loved by everyone Jerry met in his accomplished life, from family and friends, to his church fellowships, neighbors, and communities in which he lived. He always persisted in the face of tough times and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and will be dearly missed by those whose lives he touched.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Dana Williams Alford, son, M. Todd Alford (Tammy), daughter, Andrea (Ann) Kinnaman, niece, Ryen Reynolds, grandchildren, Michelle Amacker (George), Cory Giberson, Matt Alford (Holly), Erica Jennings (Kody), and great grandchildren, Jay Alford, Katilaya Amacker, Piper Prince, Maverick Jennings, and Malichi Amacker.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10 a.m. at White Chapel Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 9 a.m.
In lieu of flowers we requested you donate in Jerry's name to Gideon.Org for the distribution of bibles, The Gideons Intl., P.O. Box 2793, LaGrange, GA 30241.
