Jessie Mae Stone, (Smitty to all who knew her) was born January 18, 1925 to Jesse R. Smith and Sara Frances Williams in Athens, GA. She passed away December 26, 2019 at 94. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Jeffery Alan Stone and her brother, Britton Smith.
As a young woman, Jessie answered the call of the US government to serve as what would become known as a "Rosie the Riveter" for 2 years at Hickam, Hawaii. After the war, she started working at the Air University Library of Maxwell Field. She worked there 50+ years before retirement. Jessie was well loved and known as a friend to many. A memorial service is set for Thursday, Jan. 16 at 2:00 pm within the Founders Chapel of Frazer United Methodist Church. On line condolences may be shared at: www.Leak-MC.com.
