Jimmy Edward Kovach, 78, died on Saturday, 9 May 2020. Jim is survived by a son David Kovach of Long Beach, CA, son-in-law and grandson Cecil and Drew Hannah of Hampton, GA, a brother Randy (MaryLee) Kovach of Tucson, AZ, sister-in-law Judy (Jimmy) Lanier of Eclectic, AL, nephews Jason and Brandon Kovach and cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents John and Zelma Kovach, daughter Teri Hannah, and his wife of 55 years Sandra.
Jim was born and raised in Bluford, Illinois. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Air Force. He was stationed in various countries through his years of service, including Japan, Thailand, Greece, two tours in Germany, and several different stateside assignments, including Massachusetts, Illinois, Texas, Colorado, and Michigan. He retired around 1987 with over 25 years.
Jim was employed as a civilian at the Alabama National Guard for over 36 years. He worked most of these years in Director of Military Support Department and served in multiple roles in this department. Had made several trips to Romania with the Guard in this capacity. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Guardian Credit Union and served in several capacities. He belonged to Santuck Baptist Church. He enjoyed listening to country as well as gospel music, going to the movies on Sunday afternoons, fishing, Denver Broncos football games as well as Alabama football!
Jim was a devoted and strict father, enjoyed helping with Scouts, camping, fishing, and going to sporting events. He was a loving husband who took care of his wife. And a caring son and brother to his family.
