

JOAN Clair Miller Turner Rodgers, 88, of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Justus Miller, her brother William Miller, her first husband and the father of her children, Harold Turner, and Colonel Thomas Rodgers, her second husband. Remaining to treasure her memory are her beloved sister, Carol (Ronny) Thrash, and her children, Angie Mitchell and Emmett and Matt Turner. She is also survived by her precious grandchildren, Rob Mitchell and Garrett, Mackenzie, Aaron and Avery Turner, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to recognize her "other daughter," Serena Bailey and her caregiver, Hazel Staley.
Joan Rodgers was born on January 24, 1932 in Montgomery, Alabama. She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1950 and attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, Louisiana. She married Harold Turner in 1953 and graduated from John Patterson School of Nursing in 1966. She served the community as a nurse for nearly 30 years and retired from Baptist Hospital in 1997. After 22 years of widowhood, she married Colonel Thomas Rodgers in 2002. She was a loyal and active member of Whitfield Memorial United Methodist Church for over sixty years.
Services for Mrs. Rodgers will be Thursday, January 6, 2021 at Leak Memory Chapel at 2:00 PM with the visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
