Joyce Hicks Taft

Joyce Hicks Taft age 87 of Prattville, formerly of Montgomery, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2015. She was preceded in death by her father, Sam Hicks, Sr.; mother, Chlora Hicks; husband, James Richard Taft, Sr.; and brother, Sam Hicks, Jr. Joyce is survived by her children, Rick (Susan) Taft, Sammy Taft, Randy (Paula) Taft and Debbi (Doug) Gordon; grandchildren, Kip (Megan) Taft, Brandon Taft, Adam (Amber) Taft, Alley Taft, Michael (Ashli) Gordon, Lindsey (Brian) Clark, Brett Taft, Michelle (Matt) Hamm and Shannon Taft; great-grandchildren, Laura Buckelew Taft, Kenzie Evans, Van Taft, Micah Daniel Taft, Jack Gordon, Bailey Hamm, Ryan Gordon, Caroline Hamm and Harper Rose Taft; brother, Jimmy Hicks; and sister-in-law, Edith Hicks.

Joyce was a Pink Lady at Baptist South for 20 years. She was a lifelong member of the Telephone Pioneers and retired from AT&T after 37 years of service. Joyce was an active member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and the Jane Brooks Sunday School Class. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved to laugh, loved people, and loved her family and her church deeply.

Funeral services for Mrs. Taft will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2015, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Rev. Mike Green and Rev. Bryant Hansen will officiate with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of service at the church. Leak Memory Chapel of Montgomery will be directing.

Pallbearers will be Kip Taft, Brandon Taft, Adam Taft, Michael Gordon, Brett Taft and Matt Hamm. Honorary pallbearer will be Brian Clark.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
