June Nelson Reid Carter passed away peacefully in her home on March 8, 2019. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday March 11, 2019, at Leak Memory Chapel with a service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. She is survived by her children, Robert Andrew (Mary) Reid, Jr., Homewood, Alabama, William Daniel Reid, Montgomery, Alabama, April Nelson Reid, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and Leslie Ann Reid (Thomas) Wells, Montgomery, Alabama. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Betty June was born on July 26, 1928, in Huntsville, Alabama, to parents William Stanley Nelson and Cora Mae Hardin Nelson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Robert Andrew “Bobby” Reid, and husband of 9 years, retired Col. Washington Coss Carter.
June graduated from Huntington College in 1952, with a Bachelor of Arts, and she was a member of the Sigma Chapter of Kappa Pi International Art Honor Society. She was a Girl Scout leader and was active in the YMCA, Garden Club, DAC Daughters of American Colonists, DAR Daughters of the American Revolution and Colonial Dames. She was a founding member and past queen of Bal Masque. She enjoyed her friends in numerous bridge and duplicate clubs, and the Pike Road Community Club. June had been a member of First Presbyterian Church since her marriage in 1949.
