Lillie “Louise” Bice, 98, entered heaven’s gate on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, after being a resident at Capitol Hill Rehab and Nursing Home since 2020. Louise was born in 1926 in Pell City, AL and was the youngest of ten children born to Graves & Timmie Drummond. She met and married the love of her life, Everett Lee “EL” on 12/24/1943. They were married for 56 years when Everett passed away in 1999. She and Everett lived in Montgomery the majority of their married life. He delivered milk for Hall Brothers Dairy to residents in Montgomery and she began a career in retail. They raised a son and a daughter.
Mrs. Bice had a long and successful 25 year career in furniture sales with Gayfer’s department store in Montgomery. She was recognized for her creative room designs and record sales. After retiring from Gayfer’s, she enjoyed working part-time for Campus Spirit retail store, cheering on her Auburn Tigers to customers for 6 years. Louise and EL enjoyed tailgating at Auburn football games with friends for many years. She continued working and volunteering at Heritage Baptist Church, where she greeted staff, church members, and guests at the church office for another six years.
Mrs. Bice also enjoyed cooking and was known for her delicious pound cake, crockpot candy and haystacks made during the holidays. She always made extra to share with friends and family.
Louise and Everett were very active members at Heritage Baptist Church in Montgomery and volunteered in a variety of ways for many years. She joyfully sang in the Worship Choir and Voices of Victory choir, even into her nineties. She loved the friends she made from being part of the Joyful Servant Sunday School class and the monthly lunches with the Gayfer Girls retirement group.
Mrs. Bice is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Everett and beloved son, Gene Bice, as well as her parents and nine siblings.
She is survived by her niece, Dianne (Don) Jones who helped care for her after Gene’s death. She is also survived by her longtime friends and primary caregivers, Delain (Randell) Smith, her godchildren, Mitchell and McKenzie Smith, many special friends and relatives, a daughter Vickie, 3 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Mrs. Bice will have a Celebration of Life Service on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025 at Leak Memory Chapel. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM and service to follow at 11:00. Officiating the service will be Kenneth Loomis and Charles Dickey. All are welcome to attend.
Mrs. Bice heard the words, “Good and Faithful Servant” as she entered her heavenly home from her long and spiritual life.
