Mary Newman Mann

Mary Carrie Mann passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020. She was born in Banks, Alabama, to James Newman and Elizabeth Hughes Newman. She grew up on the family farm in Pike County and was educated in Pike County schools. Mary married Luther Griffin Mann in 1943, and they purchased land to farm until they moved to Brundidge, Alabama, where he worked as a professional barber.

In 1958, the family moved to Montgomery where her father worked in and ultimately purchased the Normandale Barber Shop. Mary worked in retail for the next twenty years and raised two children , Mary Linda Edwards and Luther Griffin Mann Jr. (deceased).

She was passionate gardener, she loved to bake, and she and the family escaped to Panama City whenever possible to enjoy the beach.

Mary Carrie Mann was preceded in death by husband, Luther Griffin Mann; son Luther Griffin Mann, Jr., grandsons; Andrew Tucker Edwards and Luther Griffin Mann III; sisters, Melva Floyd, Mavis Jones and brother, James Newman . She is survived by her daughter, Mary Linda Edwards; two grandchildren, Meredith Victoria Frailey ( husband, Henry) , Anthony Hunter Edwards (Fiancé, Leah Martin) and great grandson Conor Henry Frailey.
