Mary Catherine McUmber

Mary Catherine "Kathy" McUmber passed away on July 11, 2025, at the age of 93. Kathy was born in Whitehaven, England, in May 11, 1932. One evening, at a dance in London, she met a young US Air Force Airman, Warren Merton McUmber (Mac). They were married July 4, 1953. During the next 18 years they were stationed in Columbus, Ohio; Rome, New York; Casablanca, Morocco; Newburg, New York; The Azore Islands; Panama City, FL; and Fort Campbell, KY. In 1972, they moved to Montgomery, AL.

Kathy loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing bingo, knitting, bowling, square dancing, traveling, and dabbling in antiques. She was also an avid reader.

Kathy was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her loving children Beverly Espy (Darby), Andrew McUmber (Diana), Kelly Simmons (Malcolm). and Julie Rookis. Her grandchildren are Brian Espy (Kristy), Katherine Webb (Eric), David Espy (Rebecca), Andrew Simmons (Sydney), Parker Simmons (Mary Erwin), Tyler Simmons, Ryan Rookis, Luke Rookis, Mary Katherine Rookis; as well as 8 great grandchildren Madeline Espy, John Espy, Patrick Espy, Darby Ann Webb, Everly Espy. Ruby Espy, Julia Simmons and Lucy Kate Simmons.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 10:00 AM with a funeral mass following at 11:00 AM. Both services will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Kathy will rest in peace at St. Margaret's Cemetery, Montgomery.
