

went to be with her Lord November 2,2021. She was preceded in death by her parents
Ira Thompson Akers and Ethel Alexander Akers, and her husband James S. McCain. She
was also preceded in death by one sister, Flora Mae Waddle (Webster), four brothers; Guy
(Annie Laurie), Redus (Inez), Elton (Margie), and Price; two nieces; Carolyn!Frazier
(Butch) and Ann Akers. Those left to cherish her memory are her nephews and nieces:
Ghary Akers (Phyllis), Joyce Layton (Royce), Ronnie Akers (Shirley), Linda Golden
(Byron), Betty Garrison (Louie), Ann Jarrett (Rudy), Merideth Akers (Becky), Charles
Akers (Louise) and Tommy Akers (Dianne). She also leaves many extended family and
friends whom she loved dearly. Nell was Salutatorian of her high school class at Carrollton High School. She accepted a Clerk Typist position with the Veterans Administration and worked her way to the top
where she became the Divisional Secretary for the Regional Director of the Veterans
Administration. She met her husband - to - be “James” at work. They were married and
lived happily ever after. James and Nell were cornerstone members of the Highland Avenue Baptist Church. James was a Deacon and Nell held about every office in the Church; teacher, Training Union
Director, cook, Sunday School Superintendent and others. They were ardent Church Members at Highland Avenue for over 70 years. James and Nell were volunteers at Baptist Hospital South for many years. Services will be held at Leak Memory FuneralHome on Friday, November 5. 2021, with Visitation at 2 o’clock. Chapel Service at 3 o’clock, and Graveside Service, immediately following. Pallbearers will be her nephews.
