Norma Rose Fahey Mungenast, born on November 1, 1925, went to her eternal home on February 22, 2015. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a Godly woman with a servant’s heart who was loved and admired by family and friends and treasured by her 14 children.
Norma was born in East St. Louis, Illinois. She attended St. Joseph’s and graduated from St. Teresa Academy in 1944. When her husband Andy retired from the Air Force after a tour at the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base, they settled in Montgomery Alabama.
Norma exemplified the virtues of Proverbs 31. She was industrious, full of energy, encouraging, kind, and nonjudgmental. She demonstrated unconditional love, forgiveness, perseverance, and integrity. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. Norma lived out her faith daily. She dealt with the challenges of raising a large family by praying faithfully for them. She also prayed in earnest for seminarians, priests, vocations, the unborn, this country and the military, especially the troops overseas.
Norma taught us how to live graciously with adversity and she taught us how to die with dignity. She was grateful for the outpouring of love following her diagnosis of a brain tumor. Norma lived her ordinary life in an extraordinary way by the demonstration of her deep faith, kindness and quiet strength.
The family of Norma Mungenast wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Norman Taylor, Dr. James Markert, Dr. John Fiveash and Dr. Louis B. Nabors and their staffs, as well as Comfort Care Hospice especially Vicky Anderson and Keterrious Johnson for their care and compassion.
Norma Mungenast is preceded in death by her husband Andrew J. Mungenast, her father Dennis Fahey, her mother Irene St. Germain Bilello, her brothers Robert (Bob) Fahey and Ed (Jack) Fahey, and her sister Mary Jane Poynter.
