

Pat served 20 years of Active Duty service in the United States Air Force and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL. He served numerous overseas tours during his military career including Taiwan, Spain, Guam, Republic of Korea, and Hawaii. While serving as the Chief of Service, Pat and his Dining Facility Team won 3 Prestigious Air Force Hennessey Food Service Excellence Awards. After retiring from the Air Force, Pat earned his PhD from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL.
He served as a College Professor for over 30 years at various institutions of higher learning such as the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Troy (State) University Montgomery, University of West Alabama in Livingston, and Thomas Edison State University in New Jersey.
When Pat first retired to Honolulu, Hawaii, he worked for the State of Hawaii’s Chamber of Commerce as marketing specialist and promoted Hawaiian seafood to the world. He even went to Germany with the Governor of Hawaii and was able to visit the family’s historic town of Demerath in Germany (our family’s namesake origin).
Pat was an active Square Dance Caller for almost 30 years and wrote hundreds of editorials for the American Square Dance Magazine. He was also an avid horse rider and loved riding with his children, grandchildren, and close friends.
His sons Joseph and Timothy both followed in his footsteps in service to the Nation as U.S. Army Officers and are both Combat Veterans who have deployed numerous times in support of the ongoing Global War on Terrorism.
Pat is survived by his wife, Angela, who continues to serve communities who have suffered natural disasters through her work with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and his two sons Joseph, who is a Retired Army Officer turned Stay-at-Home Father, and Timothy, who is also an Army Officer and currently serving in his 13th year of continuous Active Duty Service to our grateful nation. Pat’s extended family includes his daughters-in-law Meghan and Rachel, and grandchildren Greyson (5), Madelyn (3), and Jack (8 months old).
