

Patty Shackelford Nelson was called home to be with our Lord, June 3rd 2023. She was preceded in death by her Mother Meta Baldwin (Young) Crane and Father William Dyer Shackelford. She is survived by her children: William Robinson Dee, Meta Robinson (Jesse), Syria Ramirez Lopez (Frankie). Sisters: Theresa Shackelford nephew William Gilcrest, Meta Shackelford, Mariah Shackelford (Richard). Grandchildren: Mariah Hamrick and Meta Ramirez Lopez. Great Grandson Oliver Tarpley. Also a dear friend must be included on this list: Isobel Riggs.
Patty was born on June 9, 1954 in Birmingham, Alabama at Saint Vincent’s Hospital. She graduated from Troy University Montgomery with a Bachelor of Science in World History, with an AAS in Civilizations and a minor in Sociology and Political Science. She continued her education with a Masters in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Alabama.
Patty utilized these degrees in many career paths throughout her life to include Assistant to the Director of South Baldwin County Literacy, Director of HIV Education in South Alabama, and South Alabama Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. Later she would be an e-mail and chat agent for the United States Postal Service, Federal Service Desk with the GSA responsible for Data Quality Reporting and Federal Government Contract Administration.
Patty loved and was loved by everyone she knew. Some of her favorite things were antiques, volunteering at the Montgomery Aids Outreach Center and her dogs. She especially loved fostering older dogs hoping to give them a beautiful loving final home. She loved talking to friends and sharing food with them. You could never give her anything without her making a big to do about it.
She is gone too soon and will be greatly missed by all who love her. Donations may be made Aids Outreach or Montgomery Humane Society.
The funeral will be July 9th with visitation at 1:00 and the service at 1:30 at Vaughn Park Church of Christ Chapel, 3800 Vaughn Road, Montgomery, AL 36116.
