Preston "Petie" Leon Franklin

FRANKLIN, Preston Leon "Petie" 66, a lifelong resident of Montgomery, AL passed away peacefully at his home in Pike Road surrounded by his wife and children on April 24, 2023 after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Dowe and his father, Benjamin Leon Franklin. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dale Bamberg Franklin; his daughter, Laura Brewer (Josh) and son, Cameron. He was lovingly known as "Peeps" by his three grandchildren: Hollan, Millie and Franklin Brewer. He also leaves behind his mother, Claudette Gaddy Beauchamp; his sister, Katherine Bonham and brothers Ben and Will Franklin.

Petie was born in Montgomery, AL on September 21, 1956. He joined the U.S. Navy his senior year of high school, later attending The University of Alabama. After college, he earned his private pilot license and thoroughly enjoyed flying any given opportunity. Petie began his career in civil engineering for the Alabama Department of Transportation in the design bureau, where he worked for over thirty years. He grew up attending Cloverdale Church of Christ, later becoming a member of Grace Pointe Church. Petie enjoyed live music, traveling out West, spending time with his grandchildren and riding his tractor.

Petie's friends and family enjoyed his unique sense of humor. He was a fun-loving husband, father and grandfather. There will never be another Petie!

Memorial contributions can be made to Agape of Central Alabama or Montgomery Humane Society. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Grace Pointe Church on Friday, April 28, 2023. There will be a visitation at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Minister Scotty Harris officiating. Graveside services will follow with a processional to Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ben Franklin, Will Franklin, Charles Edmondson, Tom Frazer, Steve Steele, Josh Brewer.

Honorary Pallbearers are Donald "Bubba" Brunson, Paul Barsom, Woody Bartlett, Warren Bartlett, Jimmy Elder.
