Service will be held Friday, January 11 at the Church of the Ascension. Visitation will be held at 1:30 with service at 3:00 with The Rev. Candice B. Frazer officiating. There will be a graveside service in McComb, Mississippi, at a later date.
Mr. Rawlings was born June 14, 1945, in Montgomery, AL. He was the son of the late Jesse Meredith Rawlings, Jr, and the late Lillian Rossell Rawlings. The family moved to McComb, MS, in the early 1950s, and Mr. Rawlings graduated from McComb High School in 1963. He attended college at the University of Alabama and graduated in 1968, with a degree in Commerce. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity (Beta Chapter). Following graduation he joined the army and was a First Lieutenant in the Armor division in Korea. He had an honorable discharge in December of 1969.
After his service Mr. Rawlings settled in Montgomery, AL. He had a long and diverse business career. He began as an accountant, comptroller with Capital City Beverage, had his own accounting firm, and ended his career as co-owner of DTA Securities until his retirement.
Mr. Rawlings’ life revolved around his family and his husband Chris. He loved to travel and had many favorite destinations—especially Lake Como in Italy. Everyone that knew him was greeted with an infectious smile and kind, generous nature. He was a lover of art and history. He served as treasurer of the Alabama Executive Mansion Foundation and Montgomery Historical Society. He spent many years cheering for the University of Alabama. Roll Tide!
Mr. Rawlings was preceded in death by his parents, his nephews Rankin Revel Rawlings and Mark Christopher Rawlings.
Survivors include his husband, Chris Powers of Montgomery; four brothers, Jesse Meredith Rawlings III and wife Sharon of Acworth, GA; Phillip Ould Rawlings and wife Gloria of Montgomery; James Whitney Rawlings and wife Carol of McComb, MS; Rankin Revel Rawlings and wife Elizabeth of Ridgeland, MS; sister, Susan Rawlings White and husband Randy; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following: Church of the Ascension, Montgomery Historical Society, Montgomery Humane Shelter or a charity of your own choosing.
