Richard Lynn Moncrief was born on, January 31, 1953, in Columbia, Tennessee, to the late Horace Carr Moncrief, Sr. and Elaine England Moncrief. The youngest of five, Richard grew up surrounded by the values that shaped him for life, a relentless work ethic, and a quiet courage that never wavered. Many of his childhood afternoons were spent at Moncrief Wheel and Alignment, his father’s shop, where he first learned the rhythms of labor, responsibility, and pride in one’s work.
As a young man, Richard answered the call to serve his country. He joined the United States Army and became a proud member of both the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions. His service was marked by honor, discipline, and the brave-hearted willingness to jump—literally—into whatever duty required.
Following his military service, Richard moved to Montgomery, Alabama, where he began his 36-year career with CSX Transportation as a Train Master. Montgomery would become more than the start of his professional journey—it is where he met his future wife, Carol.
In time, Richard built the part of his life he cherished most: his family. He married his bride, Shelia Carol Prisock, and for 40 years they shared a life marked by devotion, partnership, and unwavering love. Together they welcomed and raised two children—his daughter, Kara Lynn, and his son, Tyler Allen—who were, without question, his heart and joy.
Richard later settled in Wetumpka, Alabama, where he created a rooted life filled with simple, steadfast pleasures. He loved Tennessee football with fierce loyalty, especially enjoying the games with his daughter, Kara, followed NASCAR with true excitement, and found peace in landscaping his yard. His favorite days were spent having coffee and lunch with his retired railroad buddies and neighbors, sharing laughs and stories.
Of all the blessings in his life, none brought Richard more joy than his grandson, Knox. Being “Pop-Pop” was, without a doubt, Richard’s favorite job. Knox was his pride, and his favorite companion. Richard never missed a baseball game and cherished watching Knox golf- loving every moment spent by his side.
Richard is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shelia Carol Prisock Moncrief; his daughter, Kara Lynn Moncrief; his son, Tyler Allen Moncrief; and his grandson, Knox. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathy (Dale) White and Marilynn (Randy) Lawrence; his brothers, Steve (Sue) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his eldest brother, Horace Carr Moncrief, Jr., (Vicki.)
On December 5, 2025, at 6:42 PM, Richard unexpectedly left this earth and stepped into the arms of the Lord. He leaves behind a legacy of service, love, humility, and quiet strength—one that will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
