

Richard Amory Roper, age 80, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. Born in Augusta, GA to Ralph W. Roper Jr. and Rosemary Chesser Roper, he worked with the Forensic Science Department of the State of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Rosemary R. Gates; and his sister-in-law, Wanda Roper. Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Brenda Gail Polk Roper; his children, Richard H. Roper and Ashley Leigh Pittman; his grandchildren, Amber Roper, Samantha Sanford (Hunter), Caeley Pittman, Riley Grace Pittman, Corban Pittman and Christopher Pittman; and his great grandchildren, Harlee Jo Roper, and Nova Rae Sanford; and his siblings, Ralph W. Roper III, Michael W. Roper (Carole), John Phillip Roper (Angela) and Joseph E. Roper (Anne).
Earning a PhD in Zoology at Auburn in 1971, Mr. Roper worked within the Alabama Department of Toxicology and Criminal Investigation as a toxicologist to work in Death Investigation. Later, he trained and oversaw the Questioned Document cases within the state.
A funeral mass for Richard will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 8570 Vaughn Rd., Montgomery, AL. A burial will follow at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, 909 Lincoln Rd., Montgomery, AL.
