
Robert Jack “Bobby” Armstrong, born July 7th, 1941. Passed away peacefully at home on May 25th, 2012 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. While the disease certainly took its toll on Bobby, it did not prevent his inspiration and support to all his family, friends and even people he never met.
Bobby attended Lee High School. He attended The University of Alabama, Huntington College and Jones School of Law. He graduated from Starke University School.
At a young age Bobby was fortunate enough to learn the skill of flying. He carried this passion through his years as a young pilot as well as when he was an adult. When health permitted, Bobby energetically pursed every aspect of life. He enjoyed many wonderful years boating on Lake Martin and in the Gulf of Mexico. He appreciated the game of golf. It provided an opportunity for Bobby to enjoy the game with his friends; which meant more than the game itself.
Bobby’s dedication to his business Waste Recycling, Inc. was undeniable. His friends in the business community respected his work ethic and his commitment to bettering the community.
As an avid Pilot, Bobby served on the board of Montgomery Airport Authority. In addition he was a member of the Wright Flyers and Quiet Birdmen. He also served on the board of Amerifirst Bank, Central Alabama Cancer Wellness Foundation of Montgomery and Boys Club Foundation.
Bobby is preceded in death by his father John Henry and mother Eva Worthington Armstrong and his mother-in-law Helen Worrell Allen. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Worrell Armstrong. His sister Brenda Wheat(Ed). His children Alisha Belcher (David), Julie Reynolds (Jeff), Shannon Hatfield, Bo Potter (Ashley), Shane Potter (Marie-Laure) and grandchildren, David, Brock, Candler, Parker, Dillon, Meagan, Bo, Houston, Jack and Matthieu. Sisters-in-law JoAnn O’Connell (Robert) and Betty Grier. Any many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the love, care and skill provided by the doctors and staff at The University of Alabama Birmingham medical center, the Montgomery Cancer Center, Hospice of Montgomery and to Bobby’s long term care giver and close personal friend, Tasha Lambert.
The celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, May 29th, 2012. Visitation will be held at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church at 10:00 am in the atrium. Services will be held in the sanctuary at 11:30 a.m. and followed by interment at Alabama Heritage.
Pallbearers will be Bill Harris, Ed Harvey, Jerry Kyser, Alan Little, Donnie McEnery, and Ward Smith.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Boyd, Brent Camp, Barry Grant, Dickie Hanna, Joe Hagler, Mike Henig, John Holloway, George Kitchens, Dave Niesen, Carey Reagan and Felix Tankersley.
