

DUCK, Robert M. “Bob”, 85, of Montgomery passed away on Monday, November 21, 2011 in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Thomas Duck and Joseph M. Duck, Sr.; brother: Joseph M. Duck, Jr.; Sister in law, Betty Duck; and a sister: Frances Duck. Bob is survived by his niece, Kim Duck Windsor and her husband, Ken of Sylacauga, Al.; great nephew, Wes Watkins and wife Amy, of Sylacauga, Al.; great niece, Ginger Watkins Nix and husband Jeff of Washington, D. C.; great – great nieces and nephew, Marlee and Maggie Watkins and Judah Nix. Bob was a loving son, brother, uncle, friend and faithful servant of his Lord Jesus Christ. He served in the US Navy from 1944 – 1946 and was awarded the American Area Ribbon, Asiatic – Pacific Ribbon, and Victory Ribbon. After graduating from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, he became a widely popular disc jockey and program director at Sylacauga and Andalusia radio stations, spinning rhythm and blues hits and was known as Boogie Bob. Bob was also a graduate of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Religious Education. He was a member and retired deacon of First Baptist Church of Montgomery; lifetime member of Baptist Communicators Association and a retired member of the Religious Communicators Council. Bob began working at the Alabama Baptist Convention State Board of Missions in Montgomery 1968, first as Public Relations Associate and then as Director of Public Relations. He set a standard of excellence and professionalism and was always a source of encouragement to everyone. He retired in 1991 after 23 years of faithful service. Bob loved volunteering and was available everywhere and anytime a Christ –honoring servant was needed at The FBC Caring Center, Beacon Deacon, Senior Adult Council, JOY Singers, Troy University Radio Reader, Director of Adult Sunday School Department, Dexter Avenue Bible Study and the Visually Impaired Ministry. A devoted friend and brother in Christ, he will be sorely missed. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Friday, November 25, 2011 at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Sylacauga, Al. with Rev. Bill Dean officiating. Memorial services will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Montgomery with Pastors Jay Wolf and Kenny Hoomes officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, Members of Hannah and Truitt Sunday School Class of First Baptist, Directors of the Alabama Baptist newspaper, Rev. David Richardson, Stan Bailey, Dr. Ed Truitt, Rev. Gene Hannah, Henry Steindorff, Jim Warren and Lewis Figh.
