Ronald Owens was born in Mobile, Alabama on June 24, 1941 but grew up in Albertville, in Northeast Alabama. He was the fifth child of Milton Owens and Pearl (Deerman) Owens. He was an active person who loved to work, fish, hunt, and interact with youngsters. When possible he participated in school athletics and was a dedicated student. After High School, he moved to Montgomery, AL and began a lifelong career with CSX Railroad as Engineer and for thirteen years led Railroad Safety Programs.
In 1960, he married Barbara (Maltbie) Owens and they had a dedicated, loving marriage of 65 years. They have three wonderful sons, Greg (Lora), Doug (Paula), and Jeffrey Owens. Their family includes eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Ron loved God, his church and his family with a deep devotion. He was an avid follower of Alabama football and enjoyed many years with season tickets. He had many close friends and loved to share all events with them. All animals were fond of him and family pets were very special. He was an avid fisherman, youth league coach and once coached a men's softball team at Perry Hill Methodist Church. He was active in all facets of his church including being a trustee and in other service roles. His cheese biscuits were a renown delight to church members, medical offices and surgery centers.
He maintained a close relationship with his siblings, Marie Williams, Martha Jo Williams, Van Owens, Tommy Owens, Pat Mayer, and Harrison Owens. And he was very involved with his extended family, especially his nephews and nieces. At the time of his father's passing, his dad requested that Ron lead the family and keep it close and he certainly did so. Many years of family reunions were held with great fun and fellowship.
He was especially proud of his children, two physicians and an architect, and loved to share about them. He was equally proud of his grandchildren and their career choices. He and Barbara loved to travel and toured Europe and this country at every opportunity. His very favorite trip, we believe, was one to Alaska.
A dedicated and fruitful life well lived was secured and a heavenly reward is anticipated.
