Royce was one of the finest men I ever knew. He was kind and generous and would help anyone in need. He was always so good to me. I used to go to all the Birmingham Barons games at the old Rickwood Field. With my daddy. I know I saw him pitch. I just didn’t know him at the time.

Royce was a good friend at Alabama National Bank. He was one of the finest men I’ve ever known. He and Peacock made quail hunting a joy for me and our customers. I loved listening to his talk about playing for the Lookouts and the Air Force when I could get him to. I saw him pitch. My dad had tickets to the Birmingham Barrons. He was a good friend and helped anyone who needed help. I was honored to call him my friend.

To all the Chandler family, I am so sorry for your loss. I first met Royce in 1971 when I began working for the Alabama National Bank. Royce and I quickly became friends, as we shared a love for the outdoors, primarily hunting and fishing.  Soon after beginning to work at Alabama National Bank, Royce invited me on a "customer" dove shoot. ( he was an excellent shot ). Shotgun shells were expensive for a young man just getting started in the work world, so I just took 2 boxes of shells and they were quickly gone. I headed to the car to watch the rest of the shoot. Royce asked me where I was going and I explained that I was out of shells. He quickly pointed to the trunk of his car and said, " there is a case of shells in the trunk, get all you want" What a treat. Needless to say, I had a sore shoulder the next day having shot 6 boxes of shells, but it was one of the best dove shoots I ever went on. We continued to be friends over the next 50 years, and I last visited him at Cass' house in 2020. Cass explained that Royce enjoyed a small glass of Kendall Jackson white wine before bed most nights. I explained," that I did the same" We all laughed. So Royce, my toast to you tonight is " Rest in peace my friend, you ran a good race!"

So sorry to hear about Mr. Royce.  He was a precious Christian man!

Thinking of all of the family..I loved Mr Royce he was a kind and true southern gentleman!!  I have fond memories of him and all of your family! May God give you peace and comfort!!

So sorry to hear about Royce. I have fond memories of him and Merle. When I was sick or getting home from a hospital stay, they would come by for a visit and always brought potato soup they had made. It was delicious. I still miss her and will miss him.  Praying for peace and comfort for the family.
