July 27, 1933 - December 9, 2021
Rudolph M. Ohme, Jr., age 88, of Montgomery, Alabama passed to his eternal
home on December 9, 2021, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his
parents: Rudolph M. Ohme, Sr., and Hermina Regener Ohme.
Rudy graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1951 and the University of
Alabama, where he earned a Bachelors in Public Accounting, in 1955.
While at the University of Alabama, Rudy shared his musical skill playing violin
and viola in the Symphony Orchestra. He paid for part of his college expenses by
transcribing music for the Music Department. Later on, Rudy played with the
Montgomery Symphony Orchestra.
Upon college graduation, Rudy worked briefly in Selma before attending U.S.
Navy Officer Candidate School and being commissioned an Ensign in 1956. He went
on to serve three years active duty in the Pacific, transition to the Reserves, and retire
as a Commander, after 21 years of total service.
Rudy completed all requirements to become a Certified Public Accountant,
entered private practice, and became a partner in the firm Hill and Flurry followed by
Cherry, Bekaert, and Holland. After his retirement, he worked seasonally for Jackson
Thornton. He worked as a CPA for over 50 years.
A lifelong Lutheran, he was an active member at Epiphany Lutheran Church and
St. Paul Lutheran Church, serving in various leadership positions. He also did volunteer
work for several charities - notably, serving on the board for Brantwood Children’s
Home and as a financial advisor for United Way of Montgomery. He was an active
member of the Montgomery Exchange Club for over 50 years.
In retirement, Rudy engaged in an in-depth study of the ancestry of his family.
As a result, he provided each immediate family with a binder full of invaluable family
history.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Ann Scoggins Ohme; sons Rudolph
M. Ohme, III (Laura) of Huntsville and Corey Duncan Ohme (Joy) of Montgomery;
granddaughters Camilla, Ana, and Caroline; sister Jessie O. Brown (Marlin) of North
Augusta, SC; and brothers, Paul A. Ohme (Sandra) of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Henry R.
Ohme (Melinda) of Snellville, GA.
Visitation and Services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 12:15 and
1:00 respectively, on Sunday, December 19. In lieu of flowers, please make donations
in his memory to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
