
Hicks, Sam, Jr., 86, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013 after a battle with cancer. He was born in Starlington, AL on July 19, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Chlora Garner Hicks. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Edith Hester Hicks; one daughter, Linda (Jerry) Hatfield; one son, Vic (Cindi) Hicks both of Wetumpka; one sister, Joyce Taft of Prattville; one brother, Jimmy Hicks of Montgomery; four grandchildren, Keli (Dan) Jaquish of Pensacola, FL, Courtney (Travis) Jarome, Beth (Jason) Bielen both of Wetumpka and Ryan (Brooke) Hicks of Milton, FL; four great-grandchildren, Laci Hicks of Milton, FL, Riley Jarome, Ethan Bielen and Samuel Bielen of Wetumpka. Mr. Hicks was an army veteran serving 1945-1946. He spent his career with the Montgomery Police Department retiring as a Major. He was a deacon at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. His three loves were God, his family and his country. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Leak Memory Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Dale Huff and Tom Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are, David Green, Ricky Mobley, Jerry Hankins, Frank Eckerman, Danny Welch, Terry Ward, Ronnie Davis and L.R. Smith. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Roddie Hope Sunday School class at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, current and retired members of the Montgomery Police Department. Flowers or memorial contributions to Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Montgomery will be accepted.
