Sheila Gwen Laney, a kind-hearted and thoughtful soul, passed away on January 22, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on August 3, 1954, Sheila grew up in Montgomery, Alabama, where she spent her life surrounded by family and friends.
Sheila had a fulfilling career as a secretary with the Parks and Recreation Department, where she was known for her dedication and professionalism. Her colleagues and friends remember her as a thoughtful individual who always took the time to listen and offer support.
In her personal life, Sheila enjoyed reading and gardening, finding peace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her love for these hobbies was well-known among her family and friends, who often shared in her enthusiasm.
Sheila is survived by her former husband, Bobby Laney, and her beloved daughters, Ashley Desimone (Tom Desimone) and Victoria Laney. She leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Elijah Winsett, Colin Desimone, Laney Belle Desimone, Caleb Laney, Avery Roton, and Kynsley Roton. Her siblings, Valinda Collins (Billy), Terrence Wells, Randy Wells (Joyce), and Angie Williams (Randy), along with her nieces and nephews, Mandy Rausch (Adrian), Katie Collins, Clint Wells (Isbelle), Tiffany Wells, Brittany Williams, and Hannah Williams, will hold her memory close.
Sheila was preceded in death by her grandparents, Foster Wells (Jettie Wells) and Louis Arnette (Lillian Arnette), her parents, Greely Wells (Edna Wells), and her nephew, Will Collins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on February 7, 2026, at 2:00 pm at the Vonora Church of Christ 1402 Upper Wetumpka Rd in Montgomery, AL.
Sheila Gwen Laney will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of kindness and thoughtfulness will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
