Oliver Stokes Faulkner, 85, went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2019. Stokes was born in Montgomery County on February 1, 1934. He was the third son of Sollie Cleg and Maude Ella Faulkner. In 1951 he married Annie Myrl Smith with whom he shared his life for 68 years. He worked in the food industry before retiring in 2009. He was a member of Highland Avenue Baptist Church and a charter member of McGehee Road Baptist Church in Montgomery before moving to Prattville in 2006. He loved his family and was a fan of the game of baseball.
He was truly a family man, friend to all, and a faithful Christian. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sollie Cleg and Maude Ella Faulkner, and brothers Bill Faulkner and Henry Faulkner. Stokes is survived by his wife, Myrl; son Oliver (Suzan) Faulkner; daughter Cindi (Mike) Bailey; four granddaughters, Paige Faulkner, Morgan (Ronnie) Lanier, Michelle (Ross) Fuller, and Emily (Trey) Chesser; and six great-grandchildren, Jackson, Connor, and Cooper Lanier; Annleigh and Julia Mills Chesser; and Reagan Fuller. The family would like to say a special thanks to Baptist Hospice and Comfort Care of Montgomery for their care.
Pallbearers will be Arlon Poole, David Grimes, Ronnie Forrest, Ross Fuller, Trey Chesser, Ronnie Lanier, and Jackson Lanier. Honorary pallbearers will be Connor Lanier, Cooper Lanier, Bill Poage, Wayne Hicks, and Bobby Sessions.
Funeral services will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Friday, December 27 at 11:00 am with Rev. Neal Hughes and Rev. Bill Faulkner officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Serenity Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Baptist Hospice through the Baptist Foundation (https://baptistfoundation.org/donate) or Comfort Care Hospice (Montgomery location) in memory of Stokes Faulkner.
