Ted L. Nielsen flew from earth to heaven (without the use of an airplane) and looked full in the face of Jesus July 5, 2021. He was 76. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by father and mother, Thaddeus Kinnett Nielsen and Sara Bayne Nielsen; his sister, Ruth Nielsen Knox; and brothers, Jerry Nielsen and Terry Nielsen. Loving survivors include his wife of 44 years, Kathy Werner Nielsen; daughter, Courtney Nielsen Frost (Jonathon Frost); grandson, Jonathon “Parker” Frost; and his brother, Bill Nielsen and wife Sondra.
He lived his entire life in Montgomery. After his father taught him to cut hair at a young age, he worked as a barber for over 50 years. In 1968, he was drafted into the Army and served 2 years during the Vietnam War as a paratrooper. He attended Highland Ave Baptist Church where he and Kathy married at Lyon Chapel on July 2, 1977. More recently he attended Eastmont Baptist where he volunteered for our annual yard sales (he sold more tvs than anybody), Carpenters for Christ, and built and set up scenery for the Easter Passion play. He fixed floors at the church along with building things for the house out of wood in his workshop. He was infectious with his jokes, smile and just going around encouraging other people.
Ted loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, boating, taking trips in the motor home and giving his wife a hard time. Also an avid motorcyclist, he belonged to the HOG club here in Montgomery and traveled with his wife as far as North Carolina on his beautiful blue Harley Davidson Ultra Glide motorcycle. He loved spending time with his grandson Parker, including drawing anything Parker would ask him to, riding on his go cart and wave runner and playing any type of game. He was also an airplane pilot flying anything from radio controlled airplanes, ultralights, to his Piper Cub and anything else he could get his hands on.
Visitation will be Monday, July 12, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.at Eastmont Baptist Church with a Celebration of Life at 11:00am. Burial will be at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Al on July 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Bro. Art Long officiating.
