
Mr. Walter David Rushton who resided in Birmingham, Alabama went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Rushton was born in Montgomery, Alabama on February 2, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Newton Rushton, Sr. and Caroline "Carrie" Connor Rushton, two brothers, Sidney Franklin Rushton and James Newton Rushton, Jr. and the mother of his children, Donna French Rushton. He is survived by his children, David Franklin Rushton and his wife, Ronelle Rushton of Pelham, Alabama and Dana Caroline Barone and her husband, Michael Barone of Columbus, Ohio and his grandchildren, Robert "Robbie" Rushton, Kristen Barone, Kyrie Barone, Kayley Barone, Ashley Rushton, Kara Barone, Michael Francis Barone, David Joseph Barone, and an unborn Rushton grandson. He is survived by his sister, Nell Rushton McGilberry and her husband, Thomas H. McGilberry, Jr. and nieces and nephews, Leigh "Lela" Rushton Farmer, Christine Rushton Mills, James N. "Trey" Rushton, III, Jason Rushton, Tommy McGilberry, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by very good lifelong friends who were as close as brothers. David served in the United States Army and the Army National Guard and retired. He had also worked in law enforcement and security. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Masons and Shriners. David was devoted to his immediate family and his extended family. Attending family reunions was one of the most important events each year. He had a good memory of family happenings and he lived to tell stories about family members throughout the year. Many relatives remember him as "Big" David telling stories about the family. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 3:00pm in the chapel of White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home with Doug Smith officiating with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow chapel service immediately in Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors.
