

Wesley Shane Prater, 30 of Montgomery, died August 16, 2014 as a result of the cancer he had been fighting since May, 2012. He was born on October 5, 1983 in Montgomery, the son of Doug and Susan Prater. He attended and graduated T.R. Miller High School in 2000, where he was a baseball player and member of the Tiger band. He served as an active reservist in the United States Air Force 7 years, worked in Kuwait and on the flight line at Maxwell AFB as a crew chief until his cancer was diagnosed.
Shane is survived by his wife Sara Paige Slaughter Prater; his parents Doug and Susan Prater; his brother Kurt Prater and sister-in-law Laura Prater; his grandparents, Bill and Frances Entrekin of Montgomery and John and Janice Smelser of Tuscaloosa; He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. Shane and his wife Paige are members at the Landmark Church of Christ.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Leak Memory Chapel. Visitation hours will be on Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:30 at the Vaughn Park Church of Christ. The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Vaughn Park Church of Christ in Montgomery. Shane will be buried in Gadsden, Alabama at a family grave site. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the Gabriel House, Mayo Clinic at 4599 Worrall Way, Jacksonville, Florida 32224 where compassionate Christ-like volunteers served Shane and his family during his battle against cancer.
