William was born July 17, 1928 to Ina Stribling Brown and James Thomas Brown in Sunflower County MS. He played football and graduated from Marks High School in 1946, attending Northwest Junior College in Senatobia, MS, then graduating from Mississippi State University with a BA degree in accounting. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Air Force, attending Officer Candidate School. Tours took him to England, Turkey and numerous places in the United States. He retired from the USAF, as Lieutenant Colonel, in 1971 after 21 years of service. He then began his second career as an agency representative for the State of Alabama, later serving as “Grant Administrator” overseeing the federal program disbursements for the Law Enforcement Planning Agencies across the state where he served 25 years before retiring again.
All during his life, he was active in the church and served in many capacities including deacon, Sunday School teacher and singing in the choir. He loved music and enjoyed many evenings listening to different genres. He also enjoyed traveling, especially in the United States and was in awe of God’s beautiful country. He enjoyed hunting and fishing which he missed in his later years. Most of all though, he loved his family and wanted God’s love to wrap them in his warmth. He is survived by his son, Gary Brown, two daughters, Deborah Wyatt and Ginger Rodwell, grandchildren, Nicholas Brown, Mathew Brown, Adam Brown, Zachary Brown, Sarah Wyatt Parker, Joshua Wyatt, Madison Rodwell, Savannah Rodwell, and 10 great grandchildren.
