

COOPER, William Henry (Bill) went to be with the Lord October 22, 2011. He was born December 21, 1922, in Andalusia, AL. Visitation will be from 2:00- 3:00 October 25 with services to follow at 3:00 pm at Leak Memory Chapel with Dr. Mike Cassity officiating. He was a lifelong resident of Montgomery and was an active member of Normandale Baptist Church for thirty years, followed by his membership at Ridgecrest Baptist Church where he was a member of the Joe Rodgers Sunday School Class. He served as a deacon and sang in the choir. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jessie W. Cooper and a daughter Glenda Cooper (Bill) Nunn and a son W. Earl (Mandy) Cooper of Brewton; Five grandchildren: Cindy Nunn Price, Loraine Nunn (Jack) York, Madelyn Cooper (Allen) Cave of Brewton, Meredith Cooper (Kirk) Johnson of Selma, Rhett Horton (Amy) Cooper of Tuscaloosa. Nine great-grandchildren: William York; Catherine Price; Garrett and Abigail Cave; Claire and Patrick Johnson; and Reid, Margaret, and Coleman Cooper; one sister Elizabeth Buckner of Marietta, GA.; and special caregiver, Rita Harley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P.E. Cooper; three brothers Byron, Oliver, and John Cooper; two sisters Mamie Gilliland and Marjorie Turner. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the South Pacific, and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He worked at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for forty years as auditor. He was past president of the Dixie Lions Club. After retirement, he enjoyed his roses, gardening, and travel. We wish to thank his wonderful caregivers Frank Sullen, Ilene Jones, Mary Gardner, and Shirley Felder for their love and care. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, James Wingard, and Edward Howell.
