Barbara Eugene (Roach) Walcott, returned to the loving arms of her Saviour on Monday, October 2nd at 6:35 a.m. at the age of 81. She passed peacefully in her sleep at Montreal's Jewish General Hospital, the result of complications of Alzheimer's Disease. Barbara Roach was born on the Caribbean island of Barbados in the parish of St. Lucy on October 24, 1935. An adventurer at heart from the very beginning, she married fellow Bajan Denys Walcott and the two emigrated to Montreal, Canada to start a new life in 1964. Along the way, she worked as a seamstress and nurse's aid, until her entrepreneurial spirt took over, and she started her own home-based business providing care to the elderly and developmentally disabled. Those who came to know Barbara couldn't help but be engaged by her sharp wit, her hilarious assessments of everything from politics to pop culture, and her never ending devotion to family. She was a faithful member of Trinity Memorial Church, until illness prevented her from attending service regularly. Barbara is survived by her husband of 59 years Denys Walcott, as well as her four children Anthony Walcott, David Walcott, Charmaine Walcott and Shelley Walcott Philippe (Taylor). Her presence in this world will be sorely missed by her beloved grandchildren, Chad Walcott, Karl Walcott, Daniel Walcott, Ashley Philippe and Noah Philippe. A tribute to Barbara's life will be held on Saturday, October 7th, 2017 at the Collins Clarke MacGillvray White Funeral Home, 5610 Sherbrooke Street West in Montreal. A viewing will be held starting at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service starting at 11 a.m. A reception in Barbara's honour will follow immediately after the service at the same location. An interment service will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Montreal in memory of Barbara Walcott. http://www.alzheimer.ca/en/montreal/Get-involved/Donate
