Betty was born in Boynton, Quebec and grew up in the eastern townships, primarily in Ayer’s Cliff, through her teenage years. Ambitious, and with a thirst for life, Betty made the move to Montreal in her late teens.
She married and had one son, Alan, by whom she is survived. She divorced at the age of 37 and proceeded to boldly pursue an independent career, which was an impressive feat for women to embark upon in the 1970’s.
She worked hard in several fields including retail merchandising and insurance but experienced the most success, and spent the majority of her career, as a real estate agent in the Westmount and downtown area of Montreal. During this time, she formed many friendships and had a vibrant social life in the downtown core of the city and loved to have a good time. Throughout this time she also stayed true to her roots and frequently returned to her home town of Ayer’s Cliff to enjoy time with old friends and family.
Fondly remembering Sunday dinners, Christmas celebrations, and countless nights at Carmen Chez George, Les Mas des Oliviers, the Rib n’ Reef, Moby Dick’s and the Atlantic Pavillion, amongst others.
Later in life Betty developed a respiratory illness and retired in her late 50’s. Despite this, she pursued life with vigour and didn’t allow it to slow her down until her 80’s. She was iron-willed, feisty but with a heart of gold and was loved by many.
Betty is survived by Alan Cross (son), Christine Infilise (daughter-in-law) and her six grandchildren, Heather, Edward, Thomas, Paul, Emily and Andrew.
A private service will be held by the family.
In lieu of flowers, in Betty’s memory, donations are gratefully welcomed to the Andy Collins for Kids Foundation for the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
