Sister, Aunt, Cousin, Friend, Mentor, Scientist, Saver of Lives
July 18, 1943 - April 6, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Louise Moore following a brief battle with cancer.
Daughter of Winnifred and George
Sister to Fred (and Marie), Bob (and Ute), Arthur (and Edina) and Grace
Aunt to Winnie, Jim, Pete, Betty, Anne, Thom, Rob, Christi, Andrea, Daniel and Philipp
Friend to many.
Born in Newfoundland, Dorothy studied in St John’s and Montreal, earning her PhD and medical degrees. She was a paediatric infectious disease specialist at the Montreal Children’s Hospital who dedicated her life, including 6 years in Africa, to the improvement and wellbeing of others, namely children, through her work in infection prevention and vaccine-preventable diseases. In addition to caring for children she taught and mentored multiple generations of ID specialists.
A founding member of the Canadian and Quebec nosocomial infection surveillance programs, she published over 110 peer-reviewed articles, wrote chapters in renowned ID textbooks, and participated in the National Advisory Committee on Immunization and the Canadian Paediatric Society’s Infectious Diseases and Immunization Committee.
An avid cross country skier, traveller, card player (120s!), lover of hats, scarves and bags, driver of Subarus, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, exploring museums and the great outdoors, going home to Newfoundland, picking blueberries, enjoying seafood and sipping scotch.
Special appreciation to her nieces Anne, Betty and Christi and nephew Philipp for providing care during her illness.
The family would also like to express their gratitude for the loving care provided by her friends Anne, Caroline, Clare and Claudette.
A memorial service will be held on May 30th, 2026 from 12 pm to 4 pm at Centre funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, 4525 chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal, H3V 1E7.
