Gordon Tracy Alexander

Known as Grandad and GTA, Gordon was predeceased by his wife Hilda, his son Ian and his granddaughter Sarah. He is survived by his children Greg (Elaine), Jill (Karl) and Charles as well as his grandchildren Julia (Jonathan), Charles (Aimee) and Matt (Lena), Dan (Carrie), Victoria and Christopher-Thomas, and Kealy (Dom).

Grandad also had 8 great grandchildren who brought him much joy: Olivia, Margot and James, Frederik, Sloane and Sadie, Benjamin and Jonathan.

Gordon was born in Fredericton Junction on March 11th, 1927. He proudly wore the red and black colors of University of New Brunswick, graduating with honors in 1948 as a civil engineer. Gordon’s passion for his profession took him from humble beginnings as a field engineer in the back woods of Alberta, to Senior Vice President of Mining at Monenco. His dedication was vital to the success of mining developments around the world, including in Indonesia, where he oversaw mining and transportation projects for the United Nations and the World Bank.

In his spare time, he enjoyed cottaging at Lake Memphremagog with his family where he tended a stellar vegetable garden. Gordon was an avid hiker in the summer and in the winter, you could find him cross country skiing with family and friends, everywhere from Maine, Vermont and the Laurentians to the Alberta Rockies. Researching the family tree was also a deep passion, which included a trip to Ireland when he was 89.

A gentleman, a family man and a scholar to the end, Gordon will be deeply missed by many. A special thanks go to the staff at Place Kensington which he called home for the past 10 years.

A celebration of his life will take place at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral home, 5610 Sherbrooke St. West, Montreal, Quebec, H4A 1W5 on April 15th at 11 AM. A Visitation will be held the evening prior, April 14th, between 4:30 PM and 7:30 PM.
