It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Joyce Patricia Moore, affectionately known as Coxy, who transitioned peacefully on August 23, 2025, at the age of 86. Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Born in Fisher Pond, St. Thomas, Barbados, on January 8, 1939, she was the daughter of Clarence Colin Olton and Maud Beryl Cox. Joyce trained in England as an Assistant Nurse at Northgate Hospital, Great Yarmouth, and later dedicated her life as both a professional caregiver and the matriarch of her family. She met the love of her life, Allen Clifford Moore, in her teenage years, and together they built a partnership of love and resilience that spanned more than six decades. They first moved from Barbados to England, where they were married in July 1964, before settling in Montreal, Canada, where they raised their family and created a lasting legacy.
Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband, Allen Clifford Moore, and her beloved son, Martin Clifford Moore, as well as by her parents, Clarence Colin Olton and Maud Beryl Cox, and her siblings, John Cox and Margaret Olton Coward. She is survived by her devoted children, Dr. Derrick Moore (wife Sidney) and Lydia Moore. Joyce’s memory will continue to shine brightly through her grandchildren: Lashaunda Yates, Ellie Yates, Jonathan Moore, Jordan Moore, and Jasmine Moore. Joyce is also survived by her siblings, Boris, Estwick, and Dorothy (United Kingdom), as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many dear friends in Barbados, England, Canada, and abroad.
Her faith, humour, and strength defined her life. She was the heart of her family and the example of resilience, kindness, and grace to all who knew her. Even through her long battle with illness since 1999, Joyce continued to live with strength and faith, and she found joy in helping to raise her grandchildren and creating lasting memories with her loved ones. Her faith, her laughter, and her love will remain an everlasting light for her family. She was an angel on
earth, a believer who never gave up, and her life will forever be remembered as a testimony of God’s grace.
