Katherina Paulsen Gentemann

Katherina (Ketė) was born in Mukuliai, Lithuania and was the youngest of three daughters (Wihelmina, Milda & Katherina). She was the daughter of Marijona Mozūraitė Paulsen and Maximilius (Maxas) Paulsen.

The family owned a general store with a post office. Maxas also acted as the town's translator as he spoke many languages. In the evenings they enjoyed playing their musical instruments and singing.

During the Second World War, Katherina and her family were repatriated to Germany where they lived in camps for displaced people at which point their father passed away (Wihelmina had already passed away in Lithuania at the age of 18).

In 1950 Ketė with her mother Marijona emigrated to Canada to join Milda who had already emigrated earlier and who had found sponsorship by the Belgian consulate to work for them. The three lived in the consulates residence in Outremont as the consulate’s cook, nanny and housekeeper. After they had worked off the cost of their voyage, Katherina went to secretarial school and worked in the garment industry.

Ketė was one of the first members to join the choir at the new parish "Our Lady Gate of Dawn" in Montreal where she sang for over 50 years. Ketė liked to go dancing at the Lithuanian and German clubs where she met Waldemar her husband to be of 62 years.

Katherina and Waldemar eventually moved to the Laurentian mountains where Waldemar developed land in Ste-Agathe South and created an estate of Swiss and Bavarian style chalets named "Domaine Chanteclair". Over the span of her career as a designer and decorator Katherina furnished and decorated over 60 chalets.

Katherina Gentemann is survived by her children Rainer and Diana and Diana's children Lukas and Gabrielius.

The funeral mass shall be held Saturday December 7th at noon and visitation with the family as of

11:30 am at Our Lady Gate of Dawn church, 1465 Rue de Sève, Montréal. The family is especially grateful to the employees of the Pavillon Philippe Lapointe. Donations can be made

Katherina Gentemann (née Paulsen) est décédée quatre jours après le décès de son époux bien-aimé Waldemar Gentemann, marié depuis 62 ans.

Katherina (Ketė) est née à Mukuliai, en Lituanie. Elle était la plus jeune de trois filles (Wihelmina, Milda & Katherina). Elle était la fille de Marijona Mozūraitė Paulsen et Maximilius (Maxas) Paulsen.

La famille possédait un magasin général avec un bureau de poste. Maxas, parlant plusieurs langues, a joué le rôle de traducteur dans la ville. Pour leurs soirées, ils aimaient jouer de leurs instruments de musique et adoraient chanter.

Au cours de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Katherina et sa famille ont été rapatriés en Allemagne où ils vivaient dans des camps de personnes déplacées, moment auquel leur père est décédé (Wihelmina était déjà décédée en Lituanie à l'âge de 18 ans).

En 1950, Ketė et sa mère, Marijona, émigrent au Canada pour rejoindre Milda qui avait déjà émigré plus tôt et qui avait été parrainée par le consulat de Belgique. Les trois résidaient dans la résidence du consulat à Outremont en tant que cuisinier, nourrice et gouvernante du consulat. Après avoir remboursé le prix de leur voyage, Katherina est allée à l'école de secrétariat et travailla dans l'industrie du vêtement.

Ketė a été l'une des premiers membres à se joindre à la chorale de la nouvelle paroisse «Notre-Dame-Porte-de-l’Aurore» à Montréal où elle a chanté pendant plus de 50 ans. Katherina aimait aller danser dans les clubs lituanien et allemand où elle rencontra Waldemar, celui qui deviendra son mari.

Ketė et Waldemar se sont finalement installés dans les Laurentides, où Waldemar a aménagé des terres à Ste-Agathe Sud et a créé un domaine de chalets de style suisse et bavarois nommé «Domaine Chanteclair». Au cours de sa carrière de designer et décoratrice, Katherina a meublé et décoré plus de 60 chalets.

Katherina Gentemann laisse dans le deuil ses enfants Rainer et Diana et les enfants de Diana, Lukas et Gabrielius.

La famille vous accueillera samedi le 7 décembre 2019 dès 11h30, suivi d’une messe à midi à l’Église Notre-Dame-Porte-De-l’Aurore au 1465 rue de Sève à Montréal.

La famille tient à remercier tout le personnel du Centre Hospitalier de Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts et surtout du Pavillon Philippe Lapointe.
