Luigi Corte 1925-2023
On March 22, 2023, the day after his 98th birthday, Luigi (Louis) Corte passed away. He is finally reunited with his lifelong love, Emma Dirsztay, who died in 1979.
He is survived by his children Elizabeth (Étienne Dubreuil), Irène (Jacques Thibault), Marie-Claire (Scott MacDougall), Louis-Charles (Nicole Charbonneau), grandchildren Catherine, Émilie, Alexander, Christopher, Véronika, Kate and great-grandchildren Eloise, Liam, Margot, Tiberius James (TJ) and Cooper.
He is also survived in Budapest, Hungary, by the family of his late sister Magda, his brother Ferenc (93 years old) and his family, and in Rome, Italy, by the family of his late brother Umberto.
Of Italian origin, Louis was born in Budapest in 1925. After the war, he married Emma and, in 1948, the young couple immigrated to France, where they lived for a few years, before arriving in Canada by boat in 1951 with Elizabeth.
A lithographer by training, he worked in the printing industry until his retirement, but also had a multitude of other talents. He knew how to repair everything, build everything and it is impossible to list all his construction, renovation, and carpentry projects that he shared generously with his entire family.
Louis was an avid gardener, especially fond of his peppers and dahlias, an extraordinary cabinetmaker, and an enthusiastic stamp collector. Always curious and interested, he read books, newspapers, and scoured the internet having tamed the computer at 80 years old.
After the death of his wife, he dedicated his days to his children and grandchildren. Living for more than 30 years with Irene in Montreal, in winter, and with Elizabeth at the cottage, in summer, he shared our lives, our friends and our activities.
He will always be remembered as a devoted father and husband, and a force of nature with boundless energy. A man of few words, countless talents, and great depths, he leaves as a legacy his values of loyalty, perseverance, patience, self-sacrifice, hard work, and respect for nature.
The family will receive your condolences on Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. will follow the tributes at 6:00 p.m. at Les Érables parlor of the Center funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, 4525, chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges, Montréal, Québec H3V1E7.
