My dear friend Luz,
   I can't believe it's 1 year already that you have left us. The ache in my heart is no less painful, but pleasant memories are taking over the pain. I feel your presence, and it makes me smile. Simple things as seeing the crocus coming out of the ground to eating ube coconut ice cream for the first time. Your many stories over the 45 years are beautiful memories remembering a beautiful person. I know you would say to stop making a fuss. On this sunny day after Easter, thank you for being my friend!

We’ve talked about how we’ve been the best of friends. It had always been her wish to remain independent and not a burden on anyone. Her grace and determination, her wise words will embrace our lives and her love for her family meant the world to her and she meant the world to us. 
We wish we could have had more time together. God could not have called up a more special angel. When you speak of her, speak not with tears, for thoughts of her should not be sad. Let memories of times you shared give you comfort, for her life was rich because of you.
A true, steadfast friend, loving, caring and gracious. Together we became a great team. Always finding strength, joy and peace in each other. I am blessed to have been part of her life and journey. I couldn’t miss her more. “When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.” Until we meet again my dearest friend...Rest in Eternal Peace.

I wanted to let you know how much you mean to me. From as long as I can remember you have been a mother figure to me. Strict yet loving, you never sugar-coated your thoughts. A refreshing quality that I’ve learned a lot from and that I admire.

From taking us to the movies as kids to enabling my ma’s 80th birthday party to cruise excursions to the ultimate Christmas and birthday meals to our future travels. Hi Auntie Luz,
I've wanted to write to you for weeks and have finally found the words.  
From the very beginning of my relationship with Ronnie, you and Auntie Ching always made such an effort to get to know me.  You made me feel seen, heard and important.  That always meant so much to me.  I don't have any aunts or uncles in Canada, and I truly felt part of the family because of you.
Seeing Ronnie through your eyes has also been such a special joy to me as well.  When he speaks of the times he spent with you as a boy, he always has a smile on his face.  And when you talk about your memories of him as a child, you have that exact same smile on your face too.
We are trying our best to raise Marcus the right way, and for us the most important thing is family.  He is often told tales of his Daddy's childhood, and you and Auntie Ching are in all his stories about the family.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything that you've done for us, and the memories that you've helped us to create, and for those that we'll create in the future in your honor.

Dear Auntie Luz,

I am here, sitting at the computer, staring at the gift you left for us, trying to find the words to express my gratitude. Words of course cannot express the depth of my thanks.

But I will try...

I still remember when you first told us at the family picnic of your plan to treat us to a magical journey to Alaska. The mental picture of the two of us, godmother and godson, cruising through icy waters, laying on lawn chairs with adult beverages in our hands, bathing in the warmth of the Alaskan sun, chatting about nothing and everything, was a beautiful example of life coming full circle. It seemed surreal to me that this dream was going to materialize into a reality.

Sadly, this trip was taken away from us...

And now, here we are, one year later, and my incredible godmother is doing her best to ensure that the impossible-dream lives on. That the impossible re-becomes possible.

Thank you for giving us a week as royalty. Thank you for giving my son an opportunity to see Mother Nature's glaciers in all their wonder before they melt away. Thank you for giving my family a chance to enjoy each other's company, without the distractions of life. And thank you for giving us an unforgettable souvenir that we will forever have to make us smile. 

I am so lucky to have such an incredible woman as my godmother. You always made me feel special when I was a boy. And you continue to do so now as a 43-year-old man.

Hi Auntie Luz... Just wanted to say Hello and that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I also wanted to say thank you for everything, especially for the time i was able to spend with you. I treasure the stories you shared about your childhood, about Lolo and Lola, and life in Odiongan before. I treasure the meals with you and Auntie Ching at your house, yung escapades natin sa Carabao Island and By the Sea and elsewhere, and the advice and reminders you would give to me. You have also challenged me to be a better leader. I am grateful sa support mo sa scholars natin sa high school and college, and your generosity for many people which you always wanted to be kept secret/quiet. I wish I was there to hug you and thank you in person for everything. Sending you my love from here.

You are always in our thoughts and prayers. Please always stay strong. We will never stop to ask our Almighty Father to continually give us unceasing hope and even miracles to heal our bodies and soul, relieve our pain and suffering, give us peaceful mind and forgiving spirit and to be able to treasure and keep only happy and positive thoughts. I was so fortunate to speak with you before you moved on. I will always remember your strength and fortitude that created a role model for us.
The most lasting impression I have of you is connecting with our distant relatives around the world and sharing your memoirs with us that I will always keep in our family for generations. Thank you for being an influence for our family.
