Maria Lavrinc

It is with great sorrow I announce that our mother passed away on June 18, 2020. She was a loving and devoted wife of the late Ivan Lojen (1980). She was also a caring companion for twenty-one years to the late Harry Bartels who predeceased her in 2009.

They both enjoyed many travels to Europe and looked forward to their yearly trip to Cuba. In mourning, she leaves behind her daughter Metka (Pierre Lefebvre), and Janko (John), (Louise Bazinet) as well as grandchildren Alexandra, Stephanie and Fréderic.

She adored her Pomeranian dog Sparky who meant the world to her and was always by her side from 2009 until her last days. Mother was a sister to the late Stanko and Zinka, Anica Cvirn from Slovenia and nephews and nieces.

Mother loved her family and was always there for all us cooking and making her home made chicken soup especially for her grandchildren. She was the one who held everyone together. She loved her home and her garden. In her early years she was a courageous trailblazer delivering the mail during the war on her horse Beba without a saddle. She was the first one in her village to start wearing pants and all the women followed. She was an impeccable seamstress but more than anything she wanted to be a writer as her thoughts just flowed. She wrote a play which was performed at a theatre.

The viewing will take place on Monday June 29, 2020, from 1pm to 4pm, followed by a service from 4pm to 5pm at Centre funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, 4525 chemin de la Côte-Des-Neiges, Montreal, Quebec H3V 1E7.

The burial of her ashes is scheduled for July 20, 2020.
