Richard was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 59 years, Constance (Connie) Yorke. He is survived by their daughters Barbara (Roger Lussier), Caroline (Michael Gebremedhin), and Elizabeth (Stephen Smith), grandchildren Catherine (Joannie Denault) and Patrick (Corinne Prairie) Blair-Timothy, Emma Smith (Oliver Quinn) and Bruce Smith, and great-grandchildren Victor, Lou, Adam, Simone and Clementine.
Richard worked all of his adult life at Bell Canada, starting as a young man collecting coins from phone booths, moving to installing and repairing wiring in city manholes, to installing telephone poles and lines throughout Montreal, eventually moving indoors to manage central office technical operations. He retired after over 40 years of service and was a proud member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Richard was a devoted family man and was never happier than when surrounded by family and friends. A born and bred Montrealer, he was a sports fan and a supporter of the Canadiens, the Alouettes and the Expos. He was an avid reader and follower of politics. Richard was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will take place at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home, 5610 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal H4A 1W5 on Tuesday June 18 between 9am and 11am. A service will take place at the same location at 11am.
Special thanks go out to his devoted family doctor of many years Dr. Barbara Jean MacDonnell, and to the entire 4th floor Alzheimer's care team at Chateau Westmount, where he spent the last few years of his life.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the McGill University Health Centre Foundation (www.muhcfoundation.com).
