Part 4 of 8 Eulogy by Sandro's brother.

So we thought we knew a lot about Sandro. I said early he had no enemies, well he had one, only one. A dreadful, horrible disease that had taken over his body in an advanced state, four years ago. We then discovered what lied beneath this calm and gentle Sandro...a relentless fighter. Unlike some people who curl up into a corner and let the illness dominate them. Sandro rolled up his sleeves, stared down the illness and said he wasn't going down without a fight. He was convinced he would emerge a winner. He would remain incredibly calm, optimistic and good humored under all circumstances he faced. The way Sandro fought this battle makes me think of a duck moving about in a pond, calm, quiet and graceful on the surface but paddling hard underneath. Never would I have imagined the strength and stamina my brother had, waking up every single day ready for another battle. A battle that would preoccupy him 24/7...and he scored many victories over the 4 years.

In fact there is a song by Joan Osborne, it's titled One of Us, and in the song she asks...what if God was one us, what would his name be, what would he look like, would he perhaps ride on a the city-bus? and so on. Well instead I ask myself...what if an Angel... was one of us? what would be it's name, how would it go about living it's life among us? I say, look at Sandro's 50 years on this earth and there lie the answers. Sandro was the Angel sent down to this earth, we were the fortunate ones to have known him. He blessed us with joy, love and inspiration. And now that he's returned to the Angels, I hope the memories of the time you shared with him continue to bless you with joy, love and inspiration.

Part 7 of 8 Eulogy by Sandro's brother.

You are not defeated when you lose, you are defeated when you quit. Sandro never quit. The illness took away his ability to continue the fight. On his birthday card last year, because his condition had dramatically improved and we thought that the toughest part of his battle could be over, I wrote in two words...."our hero". The Oxford dictionary defines hero as a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. He was all that...and much more.

A few weeks ago, i had to move Sandro's car and after starting the engine, I noticed he had a CD loaded in the player, so I pressed play out of curiosity to find out what he could have been listening to the last time he was in his vehicle. The song that played will be the musical piece you'll hear at the end of this service. You'll once again get a peak into his state of mind. This was a battle he opted to fight in solitude, just him and his medical team right up until the very end. His decision to not tell anyone the gravity of his condition in the last months was a very honorable one, one that revealed a noble personality trait of sparing his family and friends the pain and anguish if they learned about his condition. Sandro always put the well-being of others ahead of his.

We all have mobile phones that we turn on countless times each day. Our lock screens generally show some photo of a loved one or some special place or activity we're passionate about. As for Sandro, his phone displayed....a few words.

"Stay positive, work hard, make it happen".

Words that inspired him and invigorated him several times a day, everyday.

Part 3 of 8 Eulogy by Sandro's brother.

Let's remind ourselves what a huge sports fan he was, football, hockey, tennis, to mention a few. He even travelled overseas to attend soccer matches and Formula One races. Some of those trips were with friends that are here today. Of all the places he visited, he had a special place in his heart for the island of Saint-Maarten. He made friends there and developed a deep bond with that community. He was deeply saddened when the island was hit by a devastating hurricane a few years ago.

As you viewed the many photos that were streaming on the giant screen in the reception hall, it reminds us how Sandro was blessed with having a genuinely beautiful smile and an aura that lit up any room. His calmness, his kindness and gentleness shined all around him. He truly cared about his family and friends. He was never one to raise his voice, he never expressed anger towards anyone, although on many occasions it would have been justified to doing so. He had no enemies. Everyone here has had the privilege and enormous pleasure of living their own unique and special relationship with Sandro. We all agree he was the type of person that after spending only a few minutes with him, only by his presence, he would touch our hearts. He brought an abundance of joy into our lives.

We prepared this celebration of life with Sandro in mind, by creating a very subtle tropical theme, which is why you heard Caribbean steel drum music in the reception hall, we have the tropical design on the urn, tropical flowers, the Saint Maarten bookmarks, and the blue bows we're all wearing. Turquoise, ice blue and cool blue. Sandro's 3 favourite colours because it would remind him of the tropical waters and places that offered him moments of peace and relaxation which is how we want him to feel right now as he looks down upon this gathering.

Sandro was an incredibly kind, gentle soul and an amazing friend. May he rest in peace, free of pain and looking over all of his loved ones.

To the family of Sandro my sincere condolences.  I was lucky to meet Sandro at work in 2004 and we became fast friends.  He had such a wonderful personality, sense of humor, and smile.  It seemed like I could talk to Sandro about almost anything.  He made the work days fun and somehow knew just the right time to say something or send an email or text that just made you smile.  I will miss those out of the blue pick me ups and banter which I have been re-reading since his passing.  I will miss you Sandro and wish we could have done more trips as our trip to St. Martin always brings back happy memories.  I also think back to golfing with you, those pickup baseball games, and watching various sporting events.  Rest In Peace my friend you surely made an impact in my life and many others.  I miss you and glad you were there to make those great memories.    Ross

M’y deepest sympathy goes out to the family. Sandro from the moment I met you I knew I had met someone special , you touched me with your kindness, your smile and your loving heart. No words can describe you or the pain in my heart for losing you so fast , Sandro Rest In Peace you will always be in my heart .

I would like to extend my condolences to the family . I remember Sandro being a very kind  person wth an infectious smile. It is unfortunate that you had to leave us way too soon . You  will never be forgotten and will forever be  in our hearts .  Rest in peace my friend.

My deepest condolences to the family and everyone who knew Sandro. We have to remember the good times we had  when travelling together ,hanging out having a couple of beers with pizza watching hockey night in Canada ,or just catching up. Words cannot explain the rollercoaster of  emotions I’ve been struggling with. Another close friend perishing but the great memories will always stay with me. Nobody can take that away from me. God bless his soul and may  he rest  in peace and until we meet again buddy. 

Sandro was a joyful and noble person. Always smiling, always kind, always friendly.

Sandro was the first person I had the pleasure of working alongside.   I was lucky enough to be seated next to him over the course of a year. He always kept me entertained and engaged in conversations about sports, politics and life, and was always there to help when I had a question. He was a quiet man with a kind soul. My deepest condolences to Sandro's family and friends.

I will miss Sandro’s smile when he would come into the office every morning.  He was a quiet man but always there if you needed help.
He will be very missed by so many coworkers.
