It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Shirley Ann Sinodhinos Doke in Montreal at the age of 86 years. Born in Montreal, Shirley was married to her late husband Robert (Bob) Doke for 62 years and together they raised their three children in Notre-Dame-de-Grace.
As a young girl, Shirley lived on Argyle Street with her parents (Nick and Lillian) and younger brother (Paul). During the summer months, she enjoyed spending time in Ile Perrot with her family. She graduated from Thomas D’Arcy McGee High School in 1954.
Shirley married Bob in 1959, a few years after meeting at a YMCA dance. They had a happy life together raising their kids and spending time with family and friends. They loved to entertain and hosted many cocktail parties for friends on the street. Shirley was a stay-at-home mom and became the neighborhood daycare provider while our father pursued his degree in teaching. Later she returned to work as a store clerk at Carlton Cards, where she worked for over 20 years.
After retirement, Shirley and Bob spent their time traveling, square dancing, attending the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and enjoyed luncheons and day outings with the MW 50+ club. Shirley volunteered for many years with The Catholic Woman’s League and The Montreal Institute for the blind.
Shirley is survived by three children Rob (Maria), Karyn (Michael) and Mike (Rosy); six grandchildren, Sara, Guilia, Luca, Sean, Connor, and Morgan; a great grandchild, Oliver; four nephews and niece, Eric, Craig, Lisa, Neil, and their families; Sister-in-law Linda (Roy) and brother-in-law Thomas (Late Joan).
We want to thank the nurses and supporting staff at the CHSLD Nazaire-Piché for the wonderful care they provided our mother for the past three years.
